Driver dies after two-car Christchurch crash

A person has died after a two-car crash in Springston near Christchurch.

Police said the crash happened at the intersection of Goulds Road and Leeston Road around 10.15am.

The driver of the vehicle travelling north-bound on Leeston Road was trapped following the crash and has died at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the vehicle travelling north-bound along Goulds Road were uninjured and police say they are shaken.

Police investigations into the incident are continuing.

Diversions were put in place to allow police to undertake a scene examination before the road reopened this afternoon.

Police said the death has been referred to the coroner. No details of the deceased or those involved would be released until next of kin had been informed.
