Driver denies causing death of teen

Eamonn Matthew Woods pleaded not guilty before Judge Jill Moss to a charge of careless driving causing the death of Laura Jessop, 19, in May.

A 29-year-old Masterton man charged over the death of a Masterton teenager in a car crash earlier this year has made a brief appearance in court.

Eamonn Mathew Woods appeared before Judge Jill Moss in Masterton District Court yesterday for a case review, when his defence lawyer Noel Sainsbury said more information was needed, including a medical report.

Woods has pleaded not guilty to a charge of careless driving causing the death of Laura Jessop, 19, in May. The single-car crash happened on Castlepoint Rd about 7pm on May 5.

The car rolled along a stretch of road about 40-50 metres, coming to rest on a ditch.

Miss Jessop and Woods were flung from the car, with the teenager dying at the scene. Woods was in court yesterday for a case management review.

Mr Sainsbury said there was an issue as to who was driving the car on the night.

Judge Moss remanded Woods on bail to reappear on February 5.
