Driver critical after Waikato crash

The driver of a truck and trailer unit is in a critical condition after the vehicle rolled in south Waikato this afternoon.

The truck left the road and hit a bank on State Highway 1, about a kilometre north of Tirau, police said.

The driver was taken to Waikato Hospital and the serious crash unit was investigating.

Diversions were in place around State Highways 27 and 29 while the road was cleared.
