Charges have been laid against a driver of a car which failed to stop after hitting a teenage girl in Mt Maunganui early on New Year's Day, police say.
A 17-year-old Auckland man has been charged with drunk driving and police said further charges are likely.
Victim Pikemene Muru, 16, from Ngaruawahia remained in a critical condition with head injuries in Waikato Hospital today.
She was hit in Marine Parade by a car which continued on.
A police patrol later found the vehicle parked in a side street.
The man will appear in the Tauranga District Court on January 24.
