A driver is believed to have broken bones and collapsed a lung after his car was involved in a collision with a fully-laden gravel truck near Masterton yesterday.
The northbound car was involved in the collision with the Higgins Group truck at the SH2 exit from the construction company site, immediately south of the Waingawa Bridge, at about 8am.
The driver of the car received serious injuries and was understood to have broken bones and collapsed a lung in the collision.
An ambulance took the injured man to Wairarapa Hospital, where his condition was yesterday listed as stable.
The impact crushed the front of the car, spinning it around. The truck, nearly at right angles to the highway, appeared to have barely moved, with the driver's door buckled and a small amount of gravel dislodged.
