A driver who fatally injured a motorcyclist while pulling out of a driveway has pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of careless use of a vehicle, causing death.
Bay of Plenty man Christopher (Chris) John Haverkort, was 65 when he died after the motorcycle he was riding collided with a ute being driven by Paenga August Lloyd, on Matapouri Rd just after 12.30pm on Sunday, July 3, 2022.
Haverkort, who was in Northland to visit relatives, had been riding with his brother.
Lloyd, in his 70s, was initially charged with dangerous driving causing death, which he was scheduled to defend at a judge-alone trial in Whangārei this morning.
However, at the outset of the hearing, counsel Nick Leader told Judge Taryn Bayley the case had been resolved; Lloyd would plead guilty to a lesser charge of careless use causing death.
