The inaugural Drive-In Movies Wairarapa screenings last weekend attracted a horde of outdoor cinema-goers who showed their appreciation to organisers with a chorus of tooting car horns at the closing credits, says event spokesman Damien Pivac.
An expansive screen was hung up on the Solway Showgrounds grandstand with cars assembling in the showgrounds oval for the screenings, courtesy of Firefly Cinemas, of the Jim Henson movie, Labyrinth, on Friday night and the 1978 romantic musical, Grease on Saturday night.
Mr Pivac said the screenings had brought more than 250 cars to the showgrounds over the two evening screenings with two to five people in each vehicle.
"People made the most of the amazing weather to watch a movie under the stars. Many came two nights in a row," he said.
"The coolest thing about it was at the end when the movie finished there was a chorus of car horns in appreciation for the event. Also feedback on our Facebook page has been perfect with a strong theme to do it all again soon."
