A person has been charged with driving with excess blood alcohol in relation to a serious five-car crash which left one person fighting for their life and two others seriously hurt.
The collision closed a main South Auckland road for several hours as emergency services cleared debris.
A police spokeswoman confirmed this morning that one person had been charged with drink driving and said police are yet to rule out laying further charges.
The Serious Crash unit is investigating the cause of the horror crash, which happened at the intersection of Ormiston Rd and Te Irirangi Dr in Flatbush about 8.30pm yesterday and was one of several crashes on North Island roads overnight.
The smash closed the road for several hours last night.
