Sentencing for a drink-driver who ran over two young girls in Ohope in May has been put off so he can meet with his victims' families.
Ramon Lee Hussey, 43, was due to be sentenced in the Whakatane District Court today after earlier pleading guilty to two charges of drink driving causing injury and one of driving while his licence was suspended.
Sentencing has been adjourned until July 17 to give Hussey time to take part in a restorative justice meeting with the families of the two young girls.
On May 4 Hussey was reversing a car from an alleyway next to shops on Pohutukawa Ave when he hit two girls aged 4 and 7. The 4-year-old spent several days in Auckland's Starship Hospital as a result of being hit while the 7-year-old was treated and discharged the same day.
Hussey recorded an excess breath-alcohol limit of 754mcg of alcohol per litre of breath. The legal limit is 400mcg.
