Driving at more than three times the legal alcohol limit last December 8, Brent Gordon Herrick headed across a bridge south of Carterton on the wrong side of the road and clipped an oncoming car.
Herrick pleaded guilty to a charge of drink driving and careless driving when he appeared before Judge Pat Grace in the Masterton District Court on Thursday.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Garry Wilson said Herrick failed to stop after causing $5076 damage to the other car and was followed by the victim. Police were called and a blood sample showed Herrick had 290mg of alcohol per litre of blood. The legal limit is 80mg. Herrick was remanded on bail to be sentenced on June 23.
