A woman who was stopped by police while she was riding a 50cc motorbike pleaded guilty to drink-driving in Masterton District Court yesterday.
Belinda Ann Sutherland pleaded not guilty to a further charge of driving while disqualified. In explanation to police, she said she did not believe the 50cc bike was classed as a motor vehicle and she was riding on the footpath.
The incident occurred in Church St, Masterton, on March 18, just after 12am.
Sutherland was stopped by police and breath tested. She had a level of 826 micrograms of alcohol per litre of breath, double the 400mcg limit. Both charges are for third or subsequent offences. Judge Michael Behrens convicted Sutherland on the drink-driving charge and remanded her on bail for a pre-sentence report and an alcohol and drug assessment on August 19.
On the driving while disqualified charge, Judge Behrens remanded Sutherland until July 23 for a status hearing.
