An alcoholic who was dobbed in for drink driving by her daughter was yesterday jailed for 13 months.
Judge Stephen O'Driscoll in Alexandra District Court said the community needed to be protected from Vicky Maureen Burr, 47, of Alexandra, after she was convicted for her sixth drink-drive offence.
While on bail for drink-driving in March, Burr was again caught over the alcohol limit on May 13, when her 23-year-old daughter, visiting from Australia, called police because she was concerned about her mother.
Judge O'Driscoll said previous court-imposed sentences including fines, driving disqualifications, community work and supervision had not deterred Burr from drink-driving, and jail was the only option left.
"You need to realise drinking and driving is a crime, you need to realise drinking and driving wreaks havoc and causes misery in the community," he said.
He also disqualified Burr from driving for three years.
