A Queenstown solicitor was 2 times over the drink-drive limit when she arrived to pick up her two young children from school, Invercargill District Court was told this week.
Sally Rebecca Bowers, who admitted driving with excess breath alcohol, was fined $1500, disqualified from driving indefinitely and ordered to attend an alcohol assessment centre.
The court was told her children refused to get into the car and phoned their father who called police.
Court documents listed Bowers' occupation as a shop assistant but it was confirmed she works as a solicitor.
Defence lawyer Nic Soper said Bowers was an alcoholic who had not had a drink for 12 months until the incident. Judge Moran said the law must intervene when her addiction affected others.
