KEY POINTS:
They're at it again. following the "all show, no off-road-go" CrossPolo, Volkswagen New Zealand has added a dressed up version of the Touran midi people-mover to its line-up.
The CrossTouran wears wider tyres, extra plastic body mouldings and rides 12mm higher than the standard model to try to replicate the look of a proper off-road vehicle.
However, as with the CrossPolo, it's all about the looks. The CrossTouran remains a two-wheel-drive vehicle suitable only for on-road use. At $49,990, the CrossTouran costs $2000 more than the regular Touran.
The standard powertrain is a 2.0-litre turbo diesel with the robotised-manual twin-clutch six-speed Direct Shift Gearbox.
Optional on both models is ParkScan, an automated parallel parking assistant.
As soon as the driver has selected a suitable parking space, ParkScan will takes care of the steering operation while the driver controls the accelerator and brake.
