KEY POINTS:
Auckland City councillors are snubbing the council's new logo on their business cards in favour of the traditional coat of arms.
Final proofs for the business cards were shown to councillors on November 20, featuring the wavy blue triangle sprung on them after October's local body elections.
Two days later, councillors asked officers to amend the cards. Gone was the logo and the cards were sent to the printers with just the coat of arms in gold print.
Councillor Cathy Casey said it was hilarious that the majority of councillors voted 10 days ago to stick with the new logo but did not want the "dreaded triangle" on their cards. She has opposed the logo but had nothing to do with removing it from business cards.
The logo has been a public relations disaster for the new council after being devised by chief executive David Rankin and his executive team in the last term of council.
Mr Rankin said he would use the new logo on his business cards once his present supply ran out and new cards were printed.
Only a handful of senior councillors were privy to it and it was never put to a council committee.
The logo has cost ratepayers $329,900 in direct costs to date, including $37,500 to settle a row with Triangle Television, which has a similar logo.
This led the council to modify the new logo for events and entertainment purposes.
