Dalefield men's hockey coach Mark Fenwick said his team's 2-2 draw with Harbour City-Tawa in their Wellington premier division match at the National Hockey Stadium on Saturday was indicative of the improvement they had made since the season's start.
Dalefield held a 2-0 lead over a "very good" Harbour City-Tawa side at halftime and while they conceded two goals in a second half during which they had two players cooling their heels on the sideline at the same time after being yellow carded their competitiveness was always apparent.
"You can never be totally happy about being two goals up and not winning but considering the quality of the opposition we'll take it,"Fenwick said, adding his team's effort was a notch or two up on that which had produced a 2-2 draw with University the previous weekend. "We were more structured on defence and attack, all round it was a much better performance," he said.
Fullback Deane Lett had a "blinder" for Dalefield while other individuals to star were goalkeeper Orin Lockyer and forward Rowan Yeo, who showed his finishing skills by scoring a superbly-taken goal.
