One person was in the Lyall Bay home when it caught aflame this afternoon.
Witnesses say the house look completely gutted and damaged.
Fire Service assistant area commander Mike Dombroski said the sole occupant had escaped the house and was safe.
"The house was well involved in fire when we arrived and it was threatening neighbouring houses.
"It was coming out most of the windows on the top floor of the house. The wind did make things difficult in terms of operations but things went smoothly and we were able to stop the fire from spreading."
