Strong winds made paddling difficult but competitors charged on regardless. Dozens of 22-member teams turned out to race over the 320m course. None tipped out despite the conditions, said festival spokeswoman Nikki Wright.
Kaipara College won the boys and mixed team finals, and Epsom Girls Grammar were the overall winners of the girls' event. Ms Wright said thousands of spectators watched.
