A ban on a book describing methods for people to kill themselves has been lifted.
The book, The Peaceful Pill Handbook, by euthanasia campaigner Philip Nitschke led to the Australian author being detained at Auckland Airport for a brief time after he tried to bring in copies of the handbook earlier this year.
It was officially banned from New Zealand last July.
But the Australian, known as Dr Death, resubmitted the book to the Office of Film and Literature Office with about 15 pages partially or completely blacked out, the Sunday Star-Times reports.
On Friday chief censor Bill Hastings approved the book for sale to people over 18 and provided it was sold sealed.
Mr Hastings told the newspaper that although the book was "well intentioned", it could significantly increase the risk of young people killing or harming themselves and had potential to greatly disturb or shock them.
