David Dougherty, wrongly jailed for 3 years after he was falsely accused of abducting and raping an 11-year-old girl, has admitted burgling a Palmerston North house to settle a $40 debt.
The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to the charge when he appeared in the Palmerston North District Court this week.
In 2001, Dougherty was awarded $868,729 in compensation for the time he spent in jail.
