KEY POINTS:
A poll has cast doubt on some of this country's most high profile murder convictions.
The UMR Research poll asked people over the age of 18 about their opinions on the cases of David Bain, Scott Watson and Mark Lundy.
Five years ago, 40 per cent of people thought David Bain was innocent of murdering his parents and siblings. In light of the Privy Council quashing his convictions for the murder of his family, that figure has rocketed to 66 per cent.
Only four in ten people think he should be retried.
The survey also shows there is doubt about the conviction of Scott Watson for murdering Ben Smart and Olivia Hope in the Marlborough Sounds. Forty-two per cent of people now think he is guilty, compared with 59 per cent five years ago. Sixty-five per cent of people still think Mark Lundy is guilty of stabbing his wife and daughter to death.
A Herald-DigiPoll last month found 60 per cent of respondents believed David Bain did not kill his immediate family. Fifty-seven per cent thought he should not face a new trial.
