A rental car company is fed up with the Northern Gateway Toll Road and is discouraging its customers from using it.
Scotties is telling customers if they use it and do not pay the toll on the new stretch of motorway north of Auckland, they will be charged $500.
Spokesman Keith Scott says they have received a huge number of complaints from customers who cannot pay the toll. "The system is not accepting overseas credit cards for payments. We've got a receipt from another customer who paid cash, but it's still coming up as hasn't paid on the internet."
Mr Scott says other customers have stopped to pay and the found the machines were not working.
He says the $500 charge is meant to act as a deterrent.
