Donations pour in for beaten boy

Masterton people are responding well to Caleb Skinner's plight after the 2-year-old was assaulted earlier this month.

Donation containers are dotted around Masterton at businesses including service stations, bottle shops, cafes and supermarkets to help with Caleb's ongoing medical costs.

On Friday, Trevor MacKiewicz of the Wairarapa Advocate Service was out in Kuripuni collecting donations for Caleb. "Donations have been dropping in and people are asking after Caleb and wishing him well," he said.

"People who haven't heard of Caleb are coming up and asking what it's about."

The exact amount of funds raised from the collection is unknown at this stage.

Mr MacKiewicz has been dealing with Caleb's family on an ongoing basis.

Elaine Leggott of Wairarapa Care has also set up a Facebook page called The Caleb Skinner Appeal and an auction will be held at the RSA in Masterton on May 1.

Mrs Leggott is appealing for donations from local businesses for the auction.

A trust fund has been set up through St Matthew's Church, and so far has just over $1300.
