A campaign focused on providing second-hand jeans to people assisted by the Auckland City Mission has helped to lessen the chill of winter.
More than 2000 pairs of jeans were collected by Volcom clothing stores throughout NZ and Australia for donation to the Auckland City Mission.
"We have had fantastic feedback - we have given out 50 pairs so far and we will continue to hand them out all winter," says James Holt, head of fundraising at the mission.
More than 500 people live on Auckland's streets, and around 40 per cent of them are under 24.
Mr Holt said that the mission saw a lot of respiratory infections.
