It was love at sight for Tom Johnson when he read about Jimmy the huntaway needing a new home.
The 2-year-old huntaway featured in the Times-Age two weeks ago after his previous owner's circumstances changed and he was handed over to the Masterton District Council dog pound for re-homing.
Mr Johnson and wife Doreen were holidaying in Martinborough at the time and decided Jimmy was a perfect addition for their family.
The couple's two other dogs, Archie and Drem, were aging now so they were looking for another dog, he said. "Our two dogs are starting to struggle a bit. We saw Jimmy and fell in love. Jimmy is a good Scot's name," he said. Making contact with the council, the couple were chosen as new owners.
The Timaru tug master and former shepherd's son, drove his dog mobile - a new Mazda Bounty to Masterton yesterday to meet Jimmy for the first time and to take him home on the 1pm ferry. It was love at first sight - the pair quickly bonded in the Town Square with Jimmy licking and jumping on his new owner. The pair seemed to instantly click. "He's just perfect."
