A Tokoroa pig hunter was accidentally shot in the foot by his dog yesterday.
Tokoroa constable Darren Nicholas said the 30-year-old man put his rifle down to "stick" a pig he had caught when the dog jumped on the rifle and accidentally fired it.
Constable Nicholas said the hunter's foot was shot close to the ankle.
He has a 50-50 chance of keeping his foot, doctors say.
The man had been in the bush for about eight hours when friends found him yesterday afternoon.
He was taken to Tokoroa Hospital before being flown to Waikato Hospital by the WestpacTrust Air Ambulance about 5 pm.
He was in a stable condition last night.
