An english bull terrier "roasted" to death in a car while its owner was shopping in Palmerston North.
SPCA staff were called to the scene, but found the animal had died.
"The temperature outside the car was 24.8 degrees," senior inspector Val Gilbert said of Friday's death.
"The temperature inside must have been about 40 degrees."
A decision on prosecution has yet to be made.
