Police are to prosecute the owner of a dog which allegedly attacked a man and are seeking the animal's destruction.
The 36-year-old victim was attacked by a dog in the Christchurch suburb of Shirley on August 27.
The man underwent an emergency operation for the bites.
Police said yesterday that a 44-year-old Shirley man had been charged with owning a dangerous dog and summoned to appear in the Christchurch District Court on September 16. An order has been sought for the dog's destruction.
