A judge has fined a Nelson woman $500 and ordered her dog destroyed after it bit a child on the face, leaving a "prominent scar".
Dianne Michelle Brooks, also known as Donna Marie Sutherland, wept in the dock in the Nelson District Court on Tuesday as Judge David McKegg ordered her staffordshire-bull terrier cross Brindle to be put down.
On April 21, she was at her home with the 2-year-old boy and his mother. The dog was sitting on a chair and when the boy walked past it bit him.
