Dog lover NZ's newest MP

A Scottish country dancing dog lover is the country's newest MP.

Dunedin lawyer Hillary Calvert has made her maiden speech to Parliament.

She outlined her belief in small government and less taxes and described where she got those beliefs from.

She revealed she'd been a Scottish country dancer, to laughs from other MP, and has a large dog - something she believes the government should have no involvement in.

Mrs Calvert had a strong message for those who doubt ACT will be back after the next election - she won't go easily.
