Police are seeking witnesses after a car mounted a pavement and ran over a small pet dog in Christchurch last night.
The dog was being walked by its owner when the car mounted the pavement outside the Richmond Workingmen's Club at 6.40pm and hit the dog.
It died at the scene.
Police called the incident a "hit and run".
The car was described as a 1984 blue Holden commodore but police were seeking witnesses to help identify it.
