KEY POINTS:
Kapiti police are appealing for information from the public after a dog was "intentionally" run over and killed by a group of youths yesterday.
Sergeant Ron Walker said an elderly man was walking his dog on Paraparaumu Beach near Wharemauku Road at 5pm.
A group of five young men was also on the beach, taking turns riding a trailbike with a red mudguard.
Mr Walker said the youths were riding the bike to and from the boat club, "at speed".
The noise upset the dog and it ran from its owner.
"It is reported that bike rider intentionally ran over the dog killing it instantly," Mr Walker said.
He said it was a "disgusting act" and called for anyone with information that could identify the riders to contact the Paraparaumu police.
