A 2-year-old child suffered a serious facial injury when bitten by a dog in Westmere yesterday morning.
Police said the animal was a staffordshire-bull terrier cross.
St John Ambulance said the boy was taken to the Starship in a serious condition.
An Auckland City Council animal control spokesman said the child was known to the dog's owner and the attack happened on private property.
The un-registered dog was impounded.
