Arrest after dog killed with golf club
man has been arrested and will face charges after a dog was beaten to death with a golf club in Te Kuiti, 80km northwest of Taumarunui.
Police were called to a Te Kuiti house last night and found the dead dog.
A 44-year-old man was standing in the doorway of the house armed with an array of weapons, including an axe, spade and golf club, Senior Sergeant Rob Van Kalken told NZPA.
It was a bit of a standoff when police arrived, but he eventually surrendered, Mr Van Kalken said.
The man is to appear in Hamilton District Court this morning charged with cruelty to an animal, possession of offensive weapons, and threatening behaviour.
