Auckland doctor Jared Noel's fight with bowel cancer, which he fought long enough to see his daughter born, came to an end yesterday.
The 33-year-old won the hearts of New Zealanders after speaking out about his battle with the disease, and revealing that his dying wish was to meet his then-unborn child.
Thousands of New Zealanders donated towards the cost of an expensive drug which slowed the development of his cancer, and on January 17, the former Auckland City Hospital physician was able to not only meet baby "Elise", but also help in her delivery.
Dr Noel's wife, Hannah, also a doctor, last night posted a message about his final moments on the blog he kept about his cancer journey.
"Jared passed away this morning [yesterday], peacefully, at home, surrounded by love," she said.
