KEY POINTS:
An Auckland doctor who faces historic sex allegations against young girls is fighting to have his name suppression continued.
The 58-year-old had his interim name suppression continued when he appeared in Auckland District Court today. It will be argued again on May 22.
The doctor was arrested and charged with rape, attempted rape, inducing an indecent act and two charges of indecent assault.
The charges relate to historical events between 1979 and 1987 involving three women who, when children, lived or holidayed in a small community on the Coromandel Peninsula.
Defence lawyer Peter Winter said his client wanted the interim suppression to continue but crown prosecutors said they would seek to have name suppression lifted.
Judge Eddie Paul said he was not prepared to rule on media applications to film or name the man until the complainants had been asked what their opinion was.
The man was released on bail until the name suppression hearing under bail conditions which included that he not practise medicine.
The doctor showed little emotion as he stood in court today.
A depositions date was also set down for July 23 at Auckland District Court.
