Historic sex charges including the rape of a young girl 20 more than years ago will be defended by an Auckland doctor.
The 58-year-old doctor, who is not allowed to practise, appeared in a brief depositions hearing in the Auckland District Court.
After pleading not guilty to the rape charge, one of attempted rape, two of indecent assault and one of inducing a young girl to do an indecent act on him, he was committed for trial in the High Court.
All the alleged victims were aged eight or under and the offences were all alleged to have been committed in a small settlement on the Coromandel Peninsula.
Phil Hamlin, who appeared for the police, said 10 witnesses would be called.
The man was remanded on bail to appear at a callover next month. His bail conditions included a weekly reporting clause and an order not to associate with the complainants or the witnesses.
His name suppression would continue until the beginning of his trial.
