The Department of Conservation (DoC) is seeking submissions on a draft permit for hunting on public land.
The Wild Animal Recovery Operation (WARO) concession permit is required when using aircraft to search for, shoot or recover wild animals on public conservation land.
Current permits expire in September.
DoC has completed a series of workshops with permit holders and stakeholders to develop the new permit, Canterbury conservator Mike Cuddihy said.
WARO permits have been used for heli-hunting - a controversial move with recreational hunters.
"We intend to make clear what a WARO does and does not cover by putting in place a new generation of concession documents specific to each activity (or activity group) such as carcass recovery, the capture and convey of live animals and heli-hunting," he said.
