A doctor who had a sexual relationship with a patient for about 18 months today admitted professional misconduct.
The doctor, who has interim name suppression, pleaded guilty to the offence through his lawyer at a Health Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal in Wellington.
He also admitted failing to comply with conditions imposed by the Medical Council of New Zealand, including failing to attend a GPs seminar programme and failing to sit a Primex (General Practitioners' Primary Membership Examination) assessment.
The tribunal suppressed all details surrounding the relationship between the doctor and patient.
It reserved its decision on penalty and suppression issues.
