Small cars (compact and subcompact) can be death traps regardless of how many stars or safety features they have - it all depends on what they hit, or what hits them. It's a misnomer for any small car with 5 stars to be sold under the pretense that it will be "safe". It would only be true if every other vehicle on the road was of the same size and mass. Until that becomes reality, drivers would do best to go for medium to large vehicles. But with everything so expensive these days (and getting more expensive), few people can afford late model cars and all their safety features.
