Police have repeated their warning for people not to approach a dangerous, convicted sex offender who is on the run after breaching his prison release conditions.
Police had hoped Maka Renata, 24, would give himself up after talking to his lawyer but that had not happened and anyone knowing where he was should call police urgently, Napier police Inspector Kevin Kalff said.
He said anyone hiding the fugitive could be prosecuted.
Renata was released from prison after serving a 10-year sentence for two rapes and police said his violent history was a major concern.
An arrest warrant has been issued and he was wanted for "dishonesty offences" which happened after he failed to meet the conditions of his prison release.
Renata was coached to stalk and rape by his uncle, a gang member.
Apart from rape convictions he also had a history of street and shop robberies and was known to associate with other known criminals and sex offenders.
Police believe he could be anywhere in New Zealand as he had contacts around the country.
He was released to his hometown of Napier and was meant to be under supervision.
Mr Kalff said police delayed making a public statement about Renata for some time because several inquiries needed to be made before that happened.
"The longer he tries to avoid his responsibility, the more concern you must have," Mr Kalff said.
Anyone knowing where Renata might be should call police.
People should not approach Renata.
