A man who died in a diving accident in the Far North on Sunday was Garry Keith Weeds, 65, from Kerikeri.
Mr Weeds was diving near Moturoa Island with a companion when he disappeared and was later found dead on the seabed.
He was from a well-known Northland diving family.
His son Kelly Weeds runs Paihia Dive HQ, and was involved in the sinking of the Navy frigate Canterbury in the Bay of Islands in 2007.
It is understood Mr Weeds' wife died last week.
