Silver Fern and Waikato-Bay of Plenty Magic captain Leana de Bruin's allegiances will be torn today as her home country takes on the Black Caps.

The South African-born defender is not sure who to back.

"I'm in quite a win-win situation, really," she said. "I'm not a major cricket fan but when it's the World Cup I really enjoy watching it, so the TV will be on in the background."

De Bruin said she did not have time to watch the whole match but she and son Caleb, 5, would catch the last few hours.

"I normally start watching it towards the end ... If I had more time it would probably be easier."

Caleb had seen parts of the Cricket World Cup but his interest in the game had increased as he got older, she said.

De Bruin was fresh from captaining the Magic to an "ugly" win against the Mainland Tactix in Hamilton on Sunday night. She gets back into training today in preparation for the team's game against the Central Pulse in Wellington next Monday.
