Police divers found the body of missing Auckland man, Clifford Nelson Edwards, this afternoon.
Mr Edwards, 33, was one of three men in a dinghy when it capsized on Sunday evening off the Whangaparaoa Peninsula, north of Auckland.
Police spokesman Jayson Rhodes confirmed the body was found by the divers and taken ashore in their boat.
The family accompanied the body to the mortuary at Auckland Hospital.
Mr Edwards' friends, John Whitehead and Agnelo Mascerenha, survived the boating tragedy. All three were thrown overboard when their dinghy capsized. The two survivors clung to the dinghy and their screams for help were heard by locals.
They were rescued and taken to hospital for treatment for hypothermia but there was no sign of Mr Edwards after he left the dinghy and headed the short distance to shore.
Police earlier said all three men had been drinking and none was wearing a lifejacket when Mr Edwards allegedly stood up in the 3m aluminium dinghy, causing it to capsize.
