Police have been in touch with the owner of the diver's deflated ''safety sausage'', which was found off Wellington's south coast yesterday.
The marker buoy, used to alert people to the presence of divers, was seen after 3pm on Tuesday, just off the Karori lighthouse. But no divers had been reported missing.
Police alerted dive shops and informed boaties via marine radio.
The Maritime Unit thanked those who shared information and contacted them about the sausage.
