A person has died following a water related incident off the coast of the Whangārei township of Ōakura this afternoon.
A police spokesperson said they were alerted that a diver had been retrieved from the water unresponsive about 5.20pm.
“Emergency services attempted to resuscitate them,” police said.
However, the person sadly died at the scene.
