Bevin Peter Chapman pleaded guilty in Masterton District Court to a charge of careless driving causing injury.
Distracted and not paying attention, Bevin Peter Chapman crashed his car into a woman who was locking her car after parking in the main street of Greytown.
The 32-year-old's victim suffered "considerable and permanent injuries" to her back and pelvis which have caused her ongoing problems since the February 27incident outside the White Swan.
Appearing before Judge Barbara Morris in Masterton District Court on Thursday, Chapman pleaded guilty to one charge of careless driving causing injury.
Duty lawyer Frank Minehan said Chapman was heading north on State Highway 2 when he was "momentarily" distracted by a vehicle approaching from a side street on his right.
He swerved and unfortunately hit the woman and her vehicle, he said.
"It was not frivolous. He was distracted ... He tried to avoid hitting her."
Police prosecutor Sergeant Garry Wilson said the victim didn't want to take part in the Restorative Justice process because Chapman had failed to show up on June 9.
The woman had been seriously injured and was not able to walk without assistance, Mr Wilson said.
"The victim has been seriously physically and emotionally affected ... the victim sustained considerable and permanent injuries to her back and pelvis which cause her permanent pain."
Judge Morris adjourned the case to give Chapman time to write a letter of apology to his victim.
A father of three, Chapman was remanded at large to reappear on September 4 for sentencing.
