KEY POINTS:
Construction and maintenance work on Auckland transport routes will mean possible delays on the harbour bridge after Christmas, and no trains on much of the rail network for three weeks.
The Transport Agency intends closing the bridge's two northbound clip-on lanes for resurfacing from Boxing Day until early on Monday, January 5, the day many commuters will return to work after the statutory holiday period.
This summer's work will be a combination of routine maintenance resurfacing and the repair of sealing adhesive damaged by welders working on a structural strengthening project inside the clip-ons.
Regional operations manager Joseph Flanagan said that damage was expected, and was being repaired before it worked its way to the road surface.
Rail agency Ontrack and the Auckland Regional Transport Authority are preparing for a shutdown of services on much of their network for three weeks from Christmas Day.
There will be no trains on the western line or between Britomart and Otahuhu until January 19, or on the eastern line through Glen Innes until January 5.
These will be replaced by more than 60 buses, to allow rail construction work on at least seven sites, including preparations for new stations at Newmarket, Park Rd, Morningside, Avondale and New Lynn.
The largest task is at Newmarket, where a $25 million station is taking shape beneath Remuera Rd and Ontrack is pushing on with reconfiguration of the junction of the southern and western railway lines for about $45 million.
The agency will also lift about 1km of tracks from the western end of Newmarket to Park Rd, ready to duplicate these and prepare them for electrification.
