KEY POINTS:
Police have named the woman who died when the car she was a passenger in went out of control and crashed near Pahiatua last night.
She was Karen Dawn Ancell, 42, of Masterton.
Ms Ancell was a back-seat passenger who was thrown from the car, which was being driven by a disqualified driver.
Pahiatua police Senior Sergeant Tony Johnstone said the driver lost control of the car on a tight right hand bend on Nikau Rd about 7.45pm, ending upside down in a deep drain.
The 18-year-old male driver and his front seat woman passenger were injured and taken to Palmerston North Hospital for treatment, Mr Johnstone said.
Their injuries were not life-threatening.
Police believed none of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
The driver is to appear in Palmerston North District Court today, charged with driving while disqualified.
Further charges could be laid, Mr Johnstone said.
