Police are talking to witnesses after the body of a man apparently stabbed during a fight was found in a car in South Auckland.
Neighbours said the death happened during a fight involving several people of Asian decent who they heard yelling at one another outside a house at Leith Court in Papatoetoe.
One of the dead man's legs could be seen hanging out of the back seat of a car before police screened the vehicle.
He was believed to be in his 30s and was not a resident of the street.
Another person was taken to Middlemore Hospital, but his injuries were not serious.
The dead man's wife arrived at the scene supported by a group of people. She was supported by two women, and was led away weeping by police.
Detective Inspector Mark Gutry said the fight was between a group of men and women in their 20s and 30s who were known to each other. It was not gang or drug-related.
He hoped an autopsy today would reveal how the man died.
